Local roots to security leadership: Clementina Ekidor’s security journey at LTWP

For Clementina Ekidor, working at Lake Turkana Wind Power is more than just a job, it’s a homecoming. Growing up in Loiyangalani, just a few kilometers from the wind farm, she witnessed her community’s transformation as the vast wind turbines rose across the landscape into Africa’s largest windfarm.

“Working here feels like caring for my own home,” she reflects. Her connection to the wind farm runs deep both personally and professionally, intertwining her story with LTWP’s clean energy mission.

From Scouts to Security

Her interest in security and service began in the Kenya Scout’s Movement during her primary school years where she learned the value of teamwork, vigilance and responsibility – traits that would later shape her approach to leadership. Later, when the opportunity to join LTWP’s security team came, she seized it without hesitation.

Before joining LTWP, Ekidor shaped young minds as an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher for five years. She also worked with International NGOs like Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and Veterinaires Sans Frontieres (VSF). “I am a natural team player,” she says. Her background in education and humanitarian work taught her the power of empathy, coordination and clear communication, skills that now guide her approach to managing teams and resolving challenges at LTWP.

Growing With the Wind Farm

Ekidor joined LTWP during the company’s construction phase as a security guard through G4S. Over the years, she has served in several roles – from gate guard to control room operator and later as an acting team leader. Her adaptability was further demonstrated when she took up the role of security cook at LTWP’s camps for two years. In 2024, she rejoined the security team as a village security guard, and by February 2025, her consistency and leadership earned her a promotion to Acting Team Leader. Her current role involves overseeing daily operations and patrol coordination, conducting team briefings & morning parades, managing vehicles & asset positioning and reporting incidents and addressing team concerns

LTWP’s investment in Ekidor’s growth has been transformative. Through courses such as first aid training anda recently concluded women empowerment programme, she’s experienced what she calls a “culture of respect and growth.”

“LTWP invests in you not just with training, but with real responsibility and trust. By seeing your potential and helping you reach it, they make you feel valued every single day,” she says. The stability and support LTWP provides allow her children to focus on their education, giving her peace of mind and pride in her journey.

Resilience and Representation

While Ekidor’s journey is marked by significant achievements, it hasn’t been without challenges. Balancing motherhood and leadership in a demanding security role requires planning and dedication. I overcome this challenge with quiet determination and unwavering focus,” she affirms.

Away from the demands of her role, Ekidor finds solace and strength in activities that connect her to her roots such as listening to local music and swimming – a pastime that brings back memories of the vast Lake Turkana waters she grew up near. With this clarity and commitment, her focus remains steadfast; to ensure that every security operation under her watch runs smoothly and effectively, safeguarding the people and the pioneering clean energy mission of LTWP.
