LTWP/WoC hands over science laboratory to Korole Boys Secondary School

The Lake Turkana Wind Power Project, through its Winds of Change Foundation, has constructed and handed over a science laboratory to Korole Boys Secondary School.

The laboratory has a capacity to sit up to 50 students during a lesson. Construction of the laboratory began in June 2018 after a request from the Kargi community and was completed in March 2019.

Korole Secondary School, a newly established boys’ secondary school in Kargi, South Horr Ward, Laisamis Constituency, Marsabit County is now home to 74 students drawn from different parts of Marsabit County.

Construction of the first classroom started in April 2015. Prior to this, the school had organized for enrolled students to attend classes at one of the classrooms in Kargi Primary School, which was inconveniencing for both the secondary and primary school.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Wednesday 27thMarch at the school, the principal Zachary Zairen Ntirgamo expressed his gratitude to the Winds of Change Foundation saying, “We have come a long way as a school in the two and a half years we have been in existence. This science laboratory means that we no longer have to go to neighbouring schools to conduct our experiments. A facility such as this one, in our own school will ensure that our boys are able to conduct science experiments during lessons, way before having to conduct them in National Examinations, and will go a long way towards increasing enrolment numbers.”

The laboratory was handed over by Winds of Change Director, Felix Rottmann, during a colorful ceremony held at the school. Laisamis Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Musa Arbelle, who lauded the Foundation’s efforts in community improvement in the region. The laboratory was blessed by community elders and is now ready for use by the school
