A collective sigh of relief and celebration filled the air on January 31st, 2026, as Mpagas Primary School in Laisamis constituency welcomed a long-awaited transformation. We handed over new facilities comprising twelve individual teachers’ houses and a modern ablution block. This project is set to stabilize the school’s teaching workforce and enhance the learning environment for its 118 students, marking a boost to local education.
The handover ceremony was a vibrant event for the entire Mpagas community. Distinguished guests including the area MP Hon. Joseph Lekuton, area MCA Hon. Daud Arakole, area Chiefs, our Community Liaison Manager Job Lengoiyap and staff representatives, joined teachers, students and community members to mark this momentous occasion.
For years, the eleven dedicated teachers of Mpagas Primary School grappled with accommodation shortage. The school’s remote location, characterized by poor infrastructure, created a challenge in attracting and retaining teaching staff, especially female educators who often sought transfers due to the absence of conducive living facilities. This critical issue directly impacted the consistency and quality of education for Mpagas students, leaving many with uncertain futures.
It was this pressing need that our Foundation – Winds of Change – stepped in to address. The newly completed project now boasts twelve individual teachers’ houses, each furnished with beds and drawers. This dignified housing aims to significantly improve the educators’ living conditions. Complementing these homes, a dedicated ablution block ensures modern sanitation standards for the entire facility
During the ceremony, MP. Hon. Lekuton commended Winds of Change for its impactful work saying, “The work done by Winds of Change is recognizable and of good quality,” he stated, highlighting the tangible difference the project will make.
The community expressed its appreciation through traditional songs and dances, and the school students recited a poem, all celebrating the new beginning these essential facilities represent for their education and daily lives.
Speaking on behalf of the school, Chairman Mr. Joseph Lesiriama expressed deep gratitude. “Mpagas is a very remote area with poor infrastructure, but LTWP remembered us by giving us quality accommodation facilities,” he said. “This is not just a building; it is a foundation for the future of our children. Our teachers can now live in peace and dedicate themselves fully to their work.”
The area Chief also took the opportunity to underscore the community’s commitment to education. He noted the ongoing need for parents to ensure their children attend school regularly and made a direct request for assistance. “We call upon LTWP and the National government to partner with us in strengthening back-to-school awareness campaigns,” he urged, emphasizing the holistic approach required to uplift education throughout the entire region.
Indeed, this project is more than just a construction; it is an investment in human potential. By solving the critical issue of teacher accommodation, LTWP has not only paved the way for educational continuity and significantly improved teacher morale but, most importantly, has secured brighter academic outcomes for every child at Mpagas Primary School – truly building a foundation for a promising future for all.
