The 10 staff members at Farakoren Primary School in Laisamis were, on Saturday 6th March, glad to receive the new staff quarters and ablution blocks built by Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) through the Winds of Change Foundation (WoC).
Speaking during the handing over, Lake Turkana Wind Power Site Manager, Henk Bosman, underscored the vital role that teachers play in communities, stating that he owes his success to his teachers. “Teachers are among the most important members of our community. They give children purpose, set them up for success as citizens of our world, and inspire in them a drive to do well and succeed in life. I’m also not an exception. I am a result of a teacher who patiently taught me what I needed to know.”
Sub-County Director of Education, Mamo Godana, echoed the sentiments shared by Farakoren Primary School Headteacher, Charles Lamatango, by thanking LTWP and WoC. He went on to urge the community to work together for the betterment of the community, especially school-aged children by allowing them to attend school.
Representing the views of the 240 pupils at the school, Farakoren Primary School’s Class 8 presented a moving song and dance that requested their parents to let them finish school and shun early marriage.
