The Plant Mechanic will perform maintenance and repair of LTWP machines and plants efficiently and effectively. H/she will be responsible for keeping and maintaining maintenance logs, both scheduled and unscheduled.

The job holder will repair and maintain heavy construction machinery to complete tasks efficiently and safely. The job holders will need a good understanding of how each machine works and be able to repair them on-site or access replacement parts quickly.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Diagnose, repair, and service heavy equipment and vehicles including: Caterpillar grader, JCB machines, Caterpillar generators, Isuzu and Hino trucks.
  2. Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on all plant and generator equipment.
  3. Inspect engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrical systems, tyres, and frames.
  4. Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
  5. Perform overhauls, rebuilds, and replacement of defective parts.
  6. Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and reporting logs.
  7. Provide technical support and advice to operators and drivers.
  8. Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) before starting tasks to identify and mitigate risks.
  9. Ensure compliance with LTWP safety standards, company policies, and Kenyan legal requirements.
  10. Support continuous improvement in workshop practices and equipment reliability.
  11. Participate actively in Performance Appraisal Reviews (PAR) and maintain records of training and development.
  12. Collaborate across departments, share best practices, and support a culture of safety and excellence.
  13. Carry out any other duties assigned by management for smooth site operations.
  14. Applies technical knowledge and cost-awareness to improve workshop efficiency and reliability
  15. Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents immediately in line with LTWP’s Safety Culture framework.
  16. Participate in toolbox talks, safety drills, and HSE audits as required.
  • To support the behaviour of working as LTWP, sharing best practice, and collaborating with colleagues outside of own sphere of business.
  • To ensure full participation in the Performance Appraisal Review (PAR) process and maintain an up-to-date record of all training and development activities/programs.
  • To always act and behave in a way compliant with all LTWP company guidelines and policies, especially those relating to values and behaviours, environmental health and safety, ethics and codes of conduct, as it is through living our values that we strengthen the culture of our business and demonstrate our understanding of our Code of Conduct.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary and relevant by the management in the smooth running of the Wind Farm Site operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering (Plant/Automobile option) from an Institution recognized in Kenya.
  • Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical/Automotive/Heavy Plant Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Valid driving license (light/heavy vehicle)
  • Valid certification in motor vehicle mechanics.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant experience as a plant mechanic.
  • Hands-on experience with Caterpillar graders, JCB machines, Caterpillar generators, Isuzu trucks, and Hino trucks.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Computer literacy (Excel and maintenance reporting systems).
  • Experience in vehicle body construction and mechanical inspection preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Toyota Land Cruiser models is an added advantage.
