WoC recently handed over a borehole equipped with solar power pumping system and associated infrastructure to the Nayanaalim community in Laisamis. This included a trough to allow access to the community’s livestock herds, the primary source of wealth creation and income in the area, and a water tank for use by the residents. The decision to deliver this borehole in Nayanaalim was the result of a needs-based assessment conducted by our Community Liaison Team with the Community members themselves. This is a standard procedure for all investments made through our NGO Winds of Change. The handover was attended by our Deputy Site Manager, Julius Lenjatin, who also took the chance to provide key updates on Lake Turkana Wind Power activities to those in attendance.

Harnessing the power of the sun, this borehole will provide a reliable, clean and eco-friendly water source, transforming lives and supporting the local ecosystem. This donation demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainable development and improving access to clean water in the arid areas surrounding the Windfarm.

A defining moment unfolded during the ceremony when a community member arrived carrying two bottles: one filled with water from their previous source, and another from the newly handed over borehole. The contrast was clear – cleaner, safer water now accessible to the entire Nayanaalim community, showcasing the tangible benefits of our collective efforts.
