The LTWP village grow house’s first ever fish harvest

On 25th June 2025, all hands were on deck at the LTWP village grow house, everyone was eager to witness the first-ever fish harvest from our innovative integrated farming system. Excitement filled the air as the LTWP grow house team came together to celebrate the success of a project that had been two years in the making.

Under the leadership of Delta Lesuper and Boi Galfure, the team successfully harvested 20 healthy Tilapia, each weighing an average of 2 kilograms. The fish were reared under carefully monitored organic conditions, free from disease or abnormalities, a testament to the dedication and care invested in the system.

The harvest is the product of LTWP’s pioneering fish fertigation system, designed and installed by the Living Machines team in 2022. Strategically located at the heart of the wind farm’s grow house, this aquaculture setup uses a pump-based system to mix fertilizers with water and circulate the nutrient-rich solution throughout the fish tanks. This method ensures efficient nutrient delivery, promoting healthy fish growth while enhancing biological resilience in a challenging, arid climate.

This success not only marks a breakthrough in sustainable aquaculture for LTWP but also lays the foundation for scaling up the system and introducing greater crop diversity. By turning the constraints of a dry environment into a thriving opportunity, LTWP is driving ecological innovation, proving that sustainable food production is achievable, even in the most unlikely of landscapes.

Additionally, under our NGO, Winds of Change, we are making a real difference with grow houses at Anderi Primary, Nyiro Girls, and Nyiro Boys Secondary Schools, with plans to extend the same to other schools within our area of operations. These gardens provide fresh vegetables and teach students valuable sustainable farming skills. Investing in our community’s health and future!
