From a young age in the small village of Sarima, situated within the Lake Turkana Wind Power project, Jenerica dreamed of two things: becoming a nurse or serving in the military. These childhood dreams were shaped by the desire to serve and protect. After attending Baragoi Primary School and later Baragoi Girls Secondary School, she nurtured this passion for discipline and service. Although life’s circumstances made those paths difficult to pursue, the seed of service was firmly planted. During her high school holidays, she noticed a different kind of uniform, that of the LTWP security team. Watching them work near her home sparked a new dream: to one day wear that uniform and play a role in Kenya’s clean energy story.
That dream became a reality in 2017, when she joined LTWP as a security guard through G4S. Stationed at the gate, her attention to detail and discipline stood out. “Writing down number plates, opening vehicle doors, conducting searches – I took pride in every task,” she recalls. “For me, it wasn’t just a job, it was my dream coming true.”
From the Gate to the Control Room

Jenerica’s journey at LTWP has been one of steady growth and learning. After proving her reliability at the gate, she transitioned to the Control Room, taking on the role of Security Controller, the nerve center of LTWP’s security operations. Her responsibilities included receiving radio calls, logging incidents, tracking patrols, and ensuring the safety of her colleagues on duty. Her proactive attitude and consistency quickly earned her recognition, culminating in her promotion to Senior Security Controller in 2023.
Now, her duties are more critical, they include sending detailed reports on staff rotations and vehicle mileages to the management, tracking vehicle movements on and off-site, ensuring all information disseminated is accurate, and mentoring her team to ensure the control room operates at peak alertness and efficiency.
Education, Empowerment & Growth
For Jenerica, LTWP has been more than an employer, it has been a partner in personal and professional growth. Remembering her initial dream of nursing, Jenerica enrolled in a Diploma in Community Health and HIV management at the Thika school of Medicine and Health Sciences, “Nursing was always in my heart,” she shares. “This Diploma was my way of holding onto that because community health is still about caring for the people, which was my initial goal.”
Demonstrating a commitment to employees’ holistic growth, LTWP supported her studies by paying half of her school fees and supporting additional training opportunities such as computer studies, and the Future Female Leaders in Energy Sector program.
She also thrives in LTWP’s culture of care by engaging in activities that foster connection and renewal among employees such team building and hiking events. “These activities help us reconnect, refresh, and remind us that we’re part of a family,” she notes.
Leadership in the Security Sector

As a woman in the security field, she navigates challenges by leading with a character that is defined by honesty, accountability. “Integrity is everything in security,” she says. “You have to be truthful, even when it’s uncomfortable.” Jenerica continues to break barriers with professionalism and confidence, earning the respect of her peers and superiors alike.
Looking Ahead
Her ambitions for the future are focused on continuous improvement, both for herself and her department. She is eager to explore new opportunities and roles across different departments, believing that diverse experiences are crucial for both her personal development and her ability to contribute to the company’s mission in deeper, more innovative ways. For Jenerica, growth isn’t just about a title change, it’s about expanding her skills, perspective, and impact, ensuring she can help guide LTWP towards an even brighter future.
At its heart, Jenerica’s motivation stems from a profound, dual sense of belonging. She has directly experienced the positive impact of LTWP through the Winds of Change initiatives such as job opportunities, enhance access to education, health and water, as well as support miscellaneous community development activities She pledges her commitment saying she will “forever be grateful”.
Jenerica is not just an employee, she is a guardian of a project that powers her country and transforms her community. Her story is a brilliant illustration of how individual passion, when given the right opportunities and support, can become a powerful force for both personal and communal advancement.
