On 27 June 2026, we officially handed over a fully equipped, modern maternity wing valued at approximately Kes. 25 million to the Lontolio community in Laisamis Ward. This project marks the 104th community development initiative by LTWP through Winds of Change, reaffirming our commitment and dedication to improving healthcare access in the communities around our area of operations.
The new facility which includes a seven-bed delivery ward, a seven-bed maternity ward, waiting areas, air-conditioned rooms, and essential medical equipmentwhich is designed to provide quality maternal and child healthcare by offering safe and accessible delivery services. It is expected to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and support routine immunizations, with a dedicated room for child immunization activities.

The Lontolio Maternity Wing is a long-term investment in the health of mothers and children. It brings essential healthcare services closer to families, reduces travel for expectant mothers, and offers safer childbirth experiences for thousands of residents.
It will serve approximately 3,000 residents from Lontolio and four neighbouring villages. According to the County Department of Health, the area currently records about 106 deliveries annually, but only about 38 took place at a healthcare facility last year due to limited facilities. With the new maternity wing, health officials anticipate more women will choose to deliver at the facility, thereby reducing home deliveries and/or the need to travel over 45 kilometres to Laisamis Level IV Hospital for maternity services.
The handover event was attended by our valued guests, including our Chief Technical Officer, John Chege – who was the Chief Guest, Community Liaison Manager – Job Lengoiyap, our employee representatives from various departments, the area Member of County Assembly – Mr. Burcha, officials from the Marsabit County Department of Health, the Sub-County Administration and the wider Lontolio community.

During the event, Mr. Chege emphasized LTWP’s ongoing investment in community development, noting that the company has invested over Kes. 900 million in projects across health, education, water, and livelihoods. He highlighted that the new maternity wing is a lasting contribution to the community’s well-being. Remarkably, the first delivery occurred the morning after the handover, and the newborn was named Chege in honour of the guest of honour.
Our Community Liaison Manager Job Lengoiyap shared that Winds of Change has implemented numerous projects in the area, including water supply projects, education initiatives, and various health programs. He urged the Lontolio community to make use of the facility and protect it.
The project’s importance was echoed by officials from the County Department of Health and the Sub-County Administration, who expressed gratitude to LTWP for providing a modern health facility in this remote area. They also appealed for additional healthcare workers to be deployed and requested upgrades to other local health facilities.

The community expressed deep gratitude through songs, dances, celebrating the partnership and hope that the new facility brings. They presented cultural gifts to the guests, symbolizing the strong relationship between LTWP and the local community.
