For many years, Mpang Village in Farakoren Sub-Location, Korr/Ngurunit Ward, experienced a significant lack of access to clean water. Residents walked up to 11 Kilometres daily in search of water from shallow wells, while over 8,000 livestock across four villages depended on a single, overstretched borehole. Access to safe drinking water remained a distant dream.
That dream became a reality on 1st April, when LTWP Winds of Change officially handed over the community’s first-ever high-yield borehole. What began as a formal request from the community -following a needs assessment and sustained community engagement – has now evolved into a transformative project serving the entire Farakoren sub-location, home to an estimated 600 households.
Winds of Change drilled 250 meters deep, installed a solar powered pumping system, and constructed of a 50,000 litres concrete storage tank alongside livestock water troughs. The result is a reliable, sustainable water source that delivers clean water to the community .
The handover ceremony was marked by celebration and cultural pride. Traditional songs of praise filled the air as community members expressed their gratitude to Winds of Change for the life-changing project. In a symbolic cultural ritual, the borehole was cleansed with milk – a powerful gesture of hope and renewal.
The event was attended by distinguished guests including Chief Guest Dr. Jane Karani – our Chief Human Resources Officer, area MCA Hon. Daud Arakhole, Community Liaison Manager Job Lengoiyap, LTWP representatives, Water Committee Chairman Mr. John Lomurut, local administrators and the wider Farakoren community.
With both humour and heartfelt emotion, Mr. Lomurut captured the significance of the moment: “We have struggled for years, but now people and livestock can access clean water every minute. Farakoren is now like an ocean.” In her remarks, Dr. Jane Karani emphasized the importance of responsibility and accountability urging the community to safeguard the project: “We must take care of this project,” she said,” It must continue to add value to the community.”
In a touching show of appreciation, the Farakoren community presented traditional gifts to LTWP team and other guests symbolizing their gratitude for a project that has fundamentally changed their lives.
For the people of Farakoren sub-location, the wait is finally over, and we are glad to have made this possible.
