On February 11, 2026, LTWP Winds of Change marked a historic milestone by handing over a newly constructed modern dispensary to the Civicon community in Gatab.
The Civicon community was established in 2016 as a satellite camp by the contracted Civicon Company during LTWP’s construction phase. For ten years, accessing healthcare meant arduous motorcycle journeys to South Horr or Marsabit, towns many Kilometres away. Mothers in labour, sick children, and the elderly bore the heaviest burden during this period. That challenging chapter has now gratefully closed.
The new dispensary is set to serve approximately 2,000 people across five surrounding villages. Its services will span the full spectrum of primary care, including prenatal and postnatal care, HIV and malaria testing, family planning services, immunization, patient observation, and drug administration. Beyond direct treatment, it will also serve as a vital hub for health promotion, disease prevention, referral services, medical campaigns, outreach programmes and community health talks.
To ensure immediate functionality, the dispensary has been fully stocked with a comprehensive range of essential medical equipment and supplies. These include patient beds, examination couches, thermometers, glucometers, oxygen cylinders, sterilizers, delivery sets, a haemoglobin testing system, and an ophthalmoscope, ensuring a wide array of services are immediately available.
The handover ceremony was graced by our CEO Max Schiff, who attended as the Chief Guest. He was joined by our CFO, Alice Wathika, CL Manager Job Lengoiyap, LTWP staff representatives, key officials from Loiyangalani including the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) and Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Mt. Kulal, Ms. Naomi representing the Ministry of Health (MOH) Laisamis, the area chiefs, Primary Medical Officer, and partners from CITAM and Two Sisters Organization, alongside the entire Civicon community.

In a moving display of appreciation, community members performed traditional songs and dances, celebrating the arrival of a facility that will transform healthcare access for generations to come.
Addressing the gathering, our CEO Max Schiff reflected on the deep bond forged over time. “Civicon has a special place in the heart of Lake Turkana,” he said. “We have grown together for ten years like brother and sister, and it is a relationship we value very much.”
During the ceremony, representatives from CITAM and Two Sisters Organization expressed their commitment to the facility’s future. CITAM offered to take over the management of the dispensary, while Two Sisters pledged to support operations by hiring a cleaner, a watchman, and a nurse under an initial two-month contract.
The Area Chief Mr. Lemuni echoed the sentiment of shared responsibility saying, “This facility has been handed over to the community, it is now our collective duty to care for it as our own and ensure its security,” he stated.
The event concluded with the presentation of gifts to the guests as a token of appreciation from the community.
The Gatab Junction modern dispensary stands as a powerful symbol of progress, partnership, and the unwavering commitment to bring essential services closer to those who need them most.
