LTWP celebrates World Environment Day, 2019

On June 5, 2019, Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) and its contractors – Vestas, SECO and RXPE – marked World Environment Day, 2019 with a tree-planting exercise in and around the main accommodation village at the project site. 130 LTWP and contractor staff participated in the tree-planting activity.

The World Environment Day commemoration activities begun with a talk on air pollution and its effects on the environment from LTWP Health, Safety and Environmental Officer Jackline Mayana. 400 trees indigenous to the region including fig, tamarind and sausage tree seedlings were planted during the exercise that ran from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm bringing the total number of tree seedlings planted at the staff accommodation village to 500.

LTWP is not only committed to environmental conservation at its project site but also to the creation of awareness among the community by word and deed on the importance of environmental conservation.
